One of the most common questions we get is how many valances or panels do I need for my sliding patio door? Patio sliding doors are usually a high traffic area that will receive more attention so you want to make sure you have your door properly sized with the correct amount of fabric.
The standard size double glass sliding patio door measures between 60” wide and 72” wide. The same rule for windows would transfer to patio doors 1 ½ to 2 times your window width in fabric. If you have a 60” wide patio door and are looking at a Tailored valance that measures 56” wide we would suggest three to four valances. Always remember the more fabric on your window/door the fuller it will look. Also sheer and lace products require more fabric on the curtain rod because they gather quicker than a heavy weight lined valance.
If you are looking to hang just curtain panels on a patio sliding door just to accent the sides you will need one panel per a side at a minimum, you can use more depending on how far past the door frame you mount your curtain rod too. However, if you plan on using a grommet curtains that can easily be open and closed to help with privacy, we would suggest the same rule as for the valances. 1 ½ to 2 times your window width in fabric.
