pad

padPosition curtain rod about 1 inch below the top of the window frame to allow for the header of the curtain. Decide where you want the curtains to fall: Window Sill, Apron, Base-board or Floor.

Measuring Always use a wood or metal ruler to measure the length and width.

Length

Now, measure in inches from the top of the rod to your chosen length. Order the closest length offered. If you'll be using decorative rods such as café rods with rings, measure from the bottom of the hooks.

Width

Next, measure the length of the curtain rod and the distance the rod projects from the wall on both sides. Multiply total width by 1 1/2 to 2 to obtain the curtain width needed.

Curtains and Draperies

Pole-Top Panels or Rod-Pocket Curtains Multiply the rod length by 1 1/2 to obtain the panel width or how many panels are needed. If you are using tie-backs and want to achieve a fuller look, multiply the rod length by 2.

To achieve a fuller look with opaque fabric curtains, measure 1.5 to 2.5 times the rod width. For sheer or semi-sheer and lace curtains, which require more fullness for privacy, measure 2 to 3 times the rod width.

Swag And Valance Sets

Use approximately 2 times your rod width and shirr on the appropriate rod. Measure from the top of rod to the desired length and order the closest available size. For windows wider than 60", add insert valance(s).

Tab Curtains

Tab Curtains can be used singularly or in multiples, depending on the area to be covered and the desired look. Multiply rod length by 1 to 2 times. Since Tab Curtains are made to be used with decorative hardware, the total number of panels used should allow the hardware to show.

Scarf Panels

Scarves can be mounted through sconces, metal tiebacks,or draped over a rod. Measure the window width, then down each side to the point you want the scarf ends to fall. Choose the scarf length closet to these three measurements added together. Scarves look great in a variety of lengths and colors. They can be used to frame the window only, asymmetrical styles or puddling on the floor up to 12".
